Will a Service Fix My Boiler?
In some cases a boiler service will resolve a few issues that can come from a lack of routine maintenance, particularly pressure loss issues.
But if a boiler is broken down completely or is not working correctly then it’s usually a case that the boiler will need to be repaired before a service can be completed.
In this blog post we will explore the types of issues it can resolve, and why timely repairs are crucial for a well-functioning heating and hot water system.
Common Issues Addressed by a Boiler Service
- Pressure Loss: Low pressure can result from leaks, bleeding radiators, or a faulty pressure relief valve. A service can identify and rectify these issues.
- Inefficiency: Dust and debris accumulation can reduce boiler efficiency. Cleaning these components during a service can restore the system's efficiency.
- Strange Noises: Banging, whistling, or gurgling noises can indicate trapped air, low water pressure, or a failing pump. Our plumbers and engineers can diagnose and resolve these sounds during a service.
When Repairs Are Necessary Before Servicing
However, not all boiler issues can be resolved through routine maintenance alone. In cases where the boiler is completely broken down or not functioning correctly, repairs must be prioritised before a service can be carried out. Here are some scenarios where repairs are necessary:
- Complete Breakdown: If the boiler has stopped working entirely, identifying and fixing the root cause of the breakdown is essential before any maintenance can be performed.
- Severe Leaks: Significant water leaks can cause substantial damage and must be repaired immediately to prevent further issues and allow for a thorough service.
- Faulty Components: Broken parts, such as a malfunctioning pump or a faulty heat exchanger, need to be replaced to restore the boiler's functionality.
- Safety Concerns: If there are any safety issues, such as gas leaks or faulty safety valves, these must be addressed to ensure the boiler can be safely serviced.

As fully trained heating engineers, we can service boilers from any manufacturer. From Alpha, Baxi and Glow-worm to Vaillant, Vokèra and Viessmann, we have hands-on experience with almost every boiler brand on the market.
The cost of a boiler service depends on which level service you have. We have three different options for our customers starting from just £59.99. It’s very important to have your pressurised hot water tank serviced.
If you have a pressurised hot water cylinder then you should have that serviced too. If you have a gravity fed hot water tank then it’s not necessary to be serviced.
You can usually tell if it is a pressurised hot water tank because most of them are white, whereas gravity fed tanks can be green, blue, red, or just copper.
Pressurised hot water tanks have some important valves and components which need to be checked and routinely maintained.
If they’re not maintained it can lead to faults or in some cases a dangerous situation.
It’s highly recommended to have this serviced at the same time you have your boiler serviced.
